FAIRYTALE BALLET
In this fun class, a magical make-believe component and theme will engage students by tapping into their creativity and stimulating their imagination.  Children will explore dance through the use of props such as wands, tutus, tiaras, crowns and capes.  Enchanting stories and fairy tales are used to inspire and encourage a love for dance.  Students are guided age-appropriately through consistent structure and outlines to learn elementary ballet vocabulary and French ballet terms.  Lessons will strengthen coordination, develop poise, balance and flexibility and encourage a relationship to music.  Appropriate attire is a leotard, tights and ballet slippers.  Themed costumes and props are included in the registration fee.

In this four-week class you will learn two of the most popular dances seen at country music venues; the “Texas Two-Step” and the “Country Waltz.”  They are versatile enough to be performed at any venue, to almost any type of music.  The basic “lead” and “follow” patterns will be taught along with footwork, coordinating with your partner, turns, holds and some specialty moves.  Participants will be rotating dance partners throughout the class which will help everyone learn to dance better.  Signing-up as a couple is not required, but is highly recommended.

Line dances are traditionally done as a group of individuals, but some have been choreographed to be done in “contra” or with a partner.  This class will teach you how to dance some of the most popular partner line dances done in local country dance venues such as the, “Waltz Across Texas,” “Cowboy Cha Cha,” “Barn Dance,” “Cruisin’,” and “MMM Bop,” to name a few.  To participate in the class you will need line dance experience above a beginner level and knowledge of the above mentioned dances.  Signing- up as a couple is not required as everyone will be changing partners throughout the class.

PILATES GROUP REFORMER CLASSES—“RE-FORM” YOUR BODY
Beginning Pilates: Learn about Pilates in this beginning level class.  You will be taught to operate your Balanced Body IQ Reformer safely, apply six basic principles of Pilates, understand the Pilates language and perform a group of beginning exercises that are the building blocks of an effective Pilates workout.  This class should be repeated until you feel comfortable moving on to the intermediate level.  

Intermediate Pilates: This class expands your repertoire into a full-body Pilates workout. Increase your vitality and strength and improve your flexibility, coordination, and balance.  Make this enjoyable workout an essential part of your weekly fitness maintenance.  The level of difficulty will be determined by the experience of the participants in each class.  (Prerequisite:  Introduction to Pilates)

DIODATICS WEIGHT TRAINING FOR WEIGHT LOSS/STRENGTH

BEGINNING FENCING
This beginning fencing class is a great way for students eight to adult to learn basic fencing skills.  As a modern sport, fencing encourages quick thinking, creative problem-solving, coordination and agility development.  Appropriate attire is athletic clothing such as a T-shirt, tennis shoes, and sweatpants, but no shorts please.  Equipment will be provided during the class.   Each participant must have a non-competitive ($10 per year) or competitive membership with USA Fencing.  Students may get a membership online at www.usfencing.org or the instructors will help with sign-ups on the first day of class.  Please register one week prior to the start date of each session.

PRE-COMPETITIVE FENCING
This class is for intermediate fencers ages eight to adult and is designed to develop the technical and physical skills necessary to succeed to be a future competitive fencer.  Fencers must have their own uniform consisting of a mask, glove, jacket, plastron, knickers and socks.  Fencers also need to bring their own electric equipment: lame, body cord and electric weapon for electric bouting. (Foil or Epee equipment rental is available per request during class and open fencing for a fee of $40 per session.  Family pricing is available on request.)  Class time includes bouting with pre-competitive or competitive fencers.  Each participant must have a non-competitive or competitive membership with USA Fencing.  Students may sign up online at www.usfencing.org or the instructors will help with sign-ups on the first day of class.

TAI CHI - SOFT MOUNTAIN BREEZE
Learn the short form style of an ancient Chinese exercise consisting of slow relaxed movements that provide physical exercise for the body, concentration for the mind, and meditation for the spirit.  Tai Chi improves overall fitness, balance, coordination and agility.  It has also been shown to lower blood pressure and heart rates, promote relaxation and release stress and tension.  Those who practice Tai Chi on a regular basis tend to have good posture, flexibility, improved range of motion and mental alertness, and sleep more soundly at night.  Students will also learn Chi Kung - breathing for vital energy.

CHILDREN’S BEGINNER KUNG FU MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM
Our Little Lions class is a great way for children five to seven years of age to learn the ABCs of self-defense, gain anti-bullying skills and be introduced to the multi-cultural martial arts systems.  Studies have shown that during pre-school and early elementary school years, children are building eight fundamental skills that are essential to their growth and development. These skills include focus, honor, teamwork, control, memory, balance, discipline, fitness and coordination. The Little Lions program targets these skills, along with other disciplines of listening, respect and courtesy through a comprehensive training system that is specifically designed to generate maximum results. The exercise and physical fundamentals incorporated into the program are challenging and a great way for students to gain flexibility, balance, strength, self-confidence and self-esteem.  We also understand the importance of fun and variety to maintain high interest and participation. Any child who completes this program may have a developmental edge in their early childhood which can make the transition into adolescence much easier. Parents who are interested in getting a great workout and learning self-defense alongside their children are welcome to take the class for an additional fee of $14. Students may be required to make physical contact with other students during training exercises.  Sign-up early as classes fill-up fast!

FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM
The Filipino Martial Arts (Escrima, Arnis, or Kali) class emphasizes self-defense and personal safety first.  Movements are broken down into easily learned segments.  The Filipino martial arts are famous for flow drills that are both fun and give a real feel for the movement and speed of combat.  You will be given the ability to perform techniques such as counters, disarms, sweeps and locks in flow.  These fun classes are intellectually and physically stimulating to the martial artist at any level.  Personal exploration and discovery, coordination, balance, self-defense, health and fitness are just a few benefits of this beautiful and functional art.  Students may be required to make physical contact with other students during training exercises.  A materials fee payable to the instructor may be required.

JIU-JITSU BEGINNING MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport and self-defense system that is one of the most popular and fastest growing activities today. This art form emphasizes ground fighting techniques which involve various chokes and joint locks used to dominate and submit the attacker. Students can expect classes that will include a dynamic warm up, technique training and live sparring.  This program will expose the student to both the self-defense and competitive aspects of the sport. The exercise and physical fundamentals incorporated into the program are challenging and a great way for students to gain flexibility, balance, strength and self-confidence and self-esteem. We also understand the importance of fun and variety to maintain high interest and participation. Students may be required to make physical contact with other students during training exercises.  Must be seven or older to register, unless approved by the instructor.

Explore language development through the rhythmic nature of favorite childhood nursery rhymes.  Using basic American Sign Language, this unit offers parents a new way to communicate with baby before words are verbally spoken.  Your child will enjoy the movement, vocal play and songs ranging from classical favorites to beautiful lullabies.  Music and play are beneficial to the building of basic sensory and motor skills as well as social, cognitive, emotional and language skills.  Come join the fun in this timely tickle and bounce!

Transport your child into Kindermusik city, where ordinary sounds and sights on the street make a musical ensemble.  People shuffle their feet to a 4/4 beat.  Street musicians serenade and sing.  Clock towers boom, bellow and ring.  Classes are held with parent/caregiver present for the last 15 minutes, preparing the child for upcoming school day experiences.

Bring your acting skills to life with Comedy Fu’s professional training program for youth that want to take the stage.  Each session will include scene work that will allow the student to grow their performing skills in straight theater all the way to musical theater, as well as working on their improvisational and musical theater skills.  Comedy Fu provides a safe and fun environment where the kids can explore their acting skills and build self-esteem.  Come and laugh like you have never laughed before! A showcase for friends and family will be held on May 18 at 11 a.m. in the Vistas Community Center to highlight what was learned in class. (Dress rehearsal is May 17 from 4 to 6 p.m.)

When you’re singing on stage, you’re not only combining language and music, you also need the confidence to perform with energy and grace.  “Singing for the Stage” will teach you how to dazzle a crowd and communicate your song to an audience.  Be ready to wow your friends at your school’s next talent show and have the confidence to sing in front of any audience. COMEDY FU CHILDREN’S THEATER COMPANY with MOVE PERFORMING ARTS PRESENTS, “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST”
Be a part of Move Performing Arts very own “Comedy Fu Children’s Theater Company.”  This season, join in the production of “Beauty and the Beast.” The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Serving as an ensemble member requires participants to make a serious commitment to learning the art of theatre and committing to the entire rehearsal and show schedule which begins in February and continues into June.  Three class payments are due on February 23, April 6 and May 18.  A production fee will also be payable to The Summerlin Council in May.  The first rehearsal on February 23 is also a mandatory parent and actor meeting from 12 – 12:30 p.m.

Learn the basics of sewing with a machine and by hand, starting out with smaller projects such as pillows for your home.  Each month, lessons will progress to larger projects including gift bags, straight and gathered skirts, lazy pants and more!  Patterns and machines will be provided; fabrics and notions must be supplied by you.

DRAWING AND PAINTING FOR KIDS
This class allows artists of all abilities to pick a subject of their choice (florals, landscapes, seascapes, portraits, etc.) and create a piece of artwork with personal attention from the instructor who has more than 25 years teaching experience.  Students will be taught the basics of composition, color selection and mixing, rendering techniques as well as proportion and perspective.  This class is limited in size to ensure that each student receives the instruction and attention they need to create their masterpiece! Students must provide their own paints, brushes and canvas.  A complete list of supplies will be given to you upon registration.

Dog Obedience

DOG OBEDIENCE THROUGH AGILITY
